Octomom Nadya Suleman filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in federal court Monday, E! News confirms. The 36-year-old single mom defended her decision, saying: "I have had to make some very difficult
decisions this year and filing Chapter 7 was one of them. But I have to do what is best for my children and I need a fresh start."
Per court documents, Suleman is no longer able to pay her bills, has less than $50,000 in assets and owes between $500,000 and $1 million in liabilities. Suleman's creditors include Orkin Pest Control, Verizon Wireless, DirecTV, Sylvan Learning Center, Sparkletts Bottled Water, Indy Mac Mortgage, Kaiser Permanente and the DMV.
Suleman -- whose 14 children were conceived via in-vitro fertilization -- recently stripped down in Closer magazine for $8,000. Though she once vowed to never do porn to pay the bills, Suleman has since changed her mind.
"If the opportunity comes up I'll be the first to admit: I'm gonna eat my words!" Suleman recently said on HLN's Showbiz Tonight. "Because all that matters is that I can take care of my family."
Suleman first made headlines in January 2009 when she gave birth to octuplets Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Josiah, Jeremiah and Makai.

“But I have to do what is best for my children and I need a fresh start." – Indeed. When it’s about family, things should not be taken for granted. Chapter 7 can relieve some of the stress from a debtor like Suleman. Chapter 7 has the ‘automatic stay’ which would prevent the creditors from collecting debt while the case is in progress. After a couple of months, the bankruptcy case can then be dismissed.
