Beastie Boys co-founder Adam Yauch has died after a three-year battle with cancer.
Adam, also known as MCA, was diagnosed with throat cancer in the summer of 2009. The band made an announcement stating they would have to push back the release of their new album, Hot Sauce
Committee, Pt. 2, so that he could undergo surgery and receive radiation treatments.
The Beastie Boys were founded in 1979 but didn't find international fame until their 1986 album, Liscensed to Ill. In past years, Adam had become involved in the Free Tibet movement and founded The Tibetian Freedom Concerts. The Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April.
Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter Losel.
