Things just got realer for the Trill Entertainment family. On Thursday Trill Ent. artist Lil Phat was fatally shot in front of a hospital in Sandy Springs, Georgia according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The shooting occurred short after 6:30 p.m. and a man was found shot multiple times in a car which was parked in a parking lot next to Northside Hospital Woman’s Center. The victim was taken to Northside and was pronounced dead shortly after. That victim was later identified as Melvin Vernell III a.k.a. Lil Phat. He was 19 years old.
“RIP TO MY LIL BROTHER PHAT! LIFE SO F--KED UP! TRILL4LIFE,” Lil’ Webbie tweeted on Friday morning. “YOU STUPID BITCHES THINK DEATH A JOKE UNTIL YOU LOSE SOMEBODY YOU LOVE! #RIPLILPHAT.”
In 2008 Phat made his biggest splash as a guest on Webbie’s hit single “Independent,” which also featured Lil Boosie. In 2010 he and Webbie released their Trill 4 Life.
A number of hip-hop figures have taken to Twitter to share their R.I.P. messages including Young Money president Mack Maine, Taylor Gang producers Cardo and Sledgren, Power 105 radio personality Charlamagne tha God, A$AP Yams and Washington D.C. rapper Fat Trel.
Police spokesman Capt. Steve Rose told the AJC on Friday morning that authorities are searching for “two black males… seen running from the location at the time of the shooting.”
