Despite recent reports that Justin Timberlake is gunning for an Oscar, earlier this year Timberlake scoffed at the mention of the coveted Academy Award.
Still, that was when he was both flushed from the success of receiving Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals Man of the Year award and still dewy faced from the mock humiliation of being dressed up in a curly blond wig, out-sized bra and giant red high-heeled shoes for the traditional Ivy League roast.
At the press conference after the ceremony, a blushing and more sedately attired Timberlake gave some serious insight into his career plans, which thus far this year have been borne out. The multiple Grammy and Emmy-winning singer, producer and actor said, "I'm an artist first, so I'll continue to follow the inspiration. That means movies, TV and writing [songs] for other people." But he added that he doesn't plan too far ahead. "I mostly don't know what I'm doing," he said. "I go from project to project to project."
Timberlake, who is currently shooting the sci-fi movie 'Now,' didn't attend last year's Oscars because of his work schedule. But he didn't seem too disappointed. At Harvard, he had said the Hasty Pudding award was "way cooler" than any award he'd been given before.
His recent movie, 'The Social Network,' which stars Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook's creator Mark Zuckerberg, possibly the most famous Harvard student since George W. Bush, was released in October and is directed by David Fincher ('The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' 'Fight Club'). Undoubtedly, the movie features Timberlake ('Alpha Dog,' 'The Love Guru') in one of his most prominent acting roles to date. "I always wanted to be an actor. Music was just so natural for me," he noted of joining *NSYNC.
At the Hasty Pudding press conference, he joked about the university not allowing scenes to be shot on-campus. "Harvard did not let us film here," he said at the ceremony in a low, conspiratorial voice. "But don't worry, we'll still make you look good."
Timberlake's girlfriend Jessica Biel and his mom attended the ceremony, but kept a low profile. At the press conference, he revealed why he was particularly pleased to be hanging out at the hallowed school. "Secretly, I always wanted to go to college," he admitted, "and I didn't get the chance to do that.
