Whitney Houston's posthumous release of “I Look To You” featuring R. Kelly is almost therapeutic for her fans.
According to record executive Clive Davis, the newly-released track was a natural choice given all the work that went into it on both Whitney and Kelly’s end.
Davis explained, “She went into a studio by herself in Los Angeles and recorded two verses and a chorus of the song ‘I Look to You,’ which R. Kelly had written for her and for our album. I was just knocked out by it. To hear Whitney, as Whitney again, to hear her, the full flower of her voice it really showed the potential when she was ready to record again.”
R. Kelly sang “I Look to You” at Houston’s funeral, prompting Clive to request a melding of both Whitney and Kelly’s versions of the song. The result is the new single, which will be featured on the forthcoming I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston album.
