Lady Gaga: I used to be bulimic but I stopped to save my voice

By Unknown | 0 Comments | Monday, February 13, 2012 | , ,

Lady Gaga has admitted to having her body ‘digitally stretched to look perfect’ after enduring a hellish eating disorder as a teenager.

The superstar admitted to vomiting up her school dinners because she wanted to look like ‘a skinny little ballerina’.

But the 25-year-old was forced to choose between beating bulimia or  losing her world-famous voice.

The Born This Way singer spilled the beans on her secret battle with the  illness at a young women’s conference hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s  estranged wife, Maria Shriver.

When one attendant at the LA event grilled Gaga on how she musters the confidence to wear her barely-there  outfits, the starlet responded: ‘I used to throw up all the time in high school, so I’m not that confident.

‘Maybe it’s easier for me to talk about it now because I don’t do it any more.
‘I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous Italian girl with meatballs on the table every night.

‘I used to come home and say, “Dad, why do you always give us this food? I need to be thin.” And he’d say, “Eat your spaghetti”.’

As a result of her bulimia, Gaga –  alias Stefani Germanotta – risked losing her mega-million career.

‘The acid on my vocal chords made my voice really bad so I had to stop,’ she told the women.

‘But for those of you who don’t sing, you maybe don’t have that excuse until it’s too late. It’s very dangerous.’

The star also warned fans not to idolise her skimpy body, insisting she doesn’t look the same off camera.

‘Every video I’m in, every magazine cover, they stretch you – they make you perfect,’ she admitted. ‘It’s not real life.’

And finishing her confession, Gaga gave the women some stark advice.
‘I’m gonna say this, girls – the dieting wars have got to stop. Everyone, just knock it off. Because at the end of the day, it’s affecting kids your age and it’s making girls sick.’

This is not the first time Gaga’s weight has been under the spotlight.

The shrinking star sparked concern for her health in 2010 after collapsing several times before gigs
